Day 3: Scarlett Jo
Today during rounds the medical team let us know that Scarlett's lungs were "collapsing" and this was causing her to really work on breathing. They decided it was time to put the breathing tube back in and administer some surfactant to help lubricate her lungs. We knew that the UPs and DOWNs would come as she is so little and also so new, we hope that this is just one of those hurdles. Scarlett's weight went from 1lb 9oz to 1lb 14oz in 48 hours so they think there might be some fluid retention in her lungs as well, they will keep an eye on his via x-ray, they also gave her a diuretic to help pee out the excess fluids. Her blood sugar levels were also a little low so instead of timed feeding through a tube she will have a consistent flow of breast milk through a feeding tube. This afternoon while she was lightly sedated for the breathing tube they also decided to place her PICC line as the previously placed umbilical cord lines have a higher risk of infection and are only placed for a short periods of time. This line will be used to provide nutrients to her. After a busy day they decided to just let her rest for most of the day to really relax from all the commotion, when visited her this AM she looked so relaxed. Overnight they will most likely take another x-ray of her chest to check the lungs and also give her a sponge bath if all looks okay. I'll go visit her before bed and drop off the last awake milk collection, praying all remains stable or better!
